Harriet Joyce (Craven Greenwood) Hawkins (1928-2020), interviewed by Milo Smith, tells her experience of the integration of the Black Pioneers to Roslyn and Ronald. She explains that although Black and White children grew up playing together, society was still mostly prejudice against interracial marriage. Harriet Joyce was one of the first Black school teachers in the state of Oregon. Her brother William A. Craven was the first Black mayor in Roslyn and the state of Washington.
