Site of Powerhouse

Fred Krueger (b. 1939), interviewed by Angela Mele, shares his research on the role of the NWI’s Powerhouse on the towns of Roslyn and Cle Elum.

Fred taught history at Cle Elum Roslyn High School from 1967-1996.  Using unconventional methods, he inspired generations of students to connect with their roots and explore the unique cultural legacy of their hometowns. Krueger’s efforts to engage students in researching their family histories sparked a wave of local interest in genealogy and oral storytelling, deepening the connection between younger generations and long-time residents. His work has helped bring to light the experiences of early immigrant families and workers whose stories shaped the area's identity.  His personal collection of research materials, donated to Central Washington University, played a vital role in developing the Suncadia Legacy Collection—a comprehensive archive that will serve historians and educators for years to come.  View the collection at: https://digitalcommons.cwu.edu/suncadia/.
