Play Brings People Together at Runje Field

Arthur "Art" Darby

Arthur "Art" Darby (1916-2005), interviewed by Fred Krueger, recalls his childhood experiences with baseball games and carnivals in Runje Field. Also known as Pioneer Park, this park started as a school athletic field and playground.  It was later developed for sport competitions and picnic area to provide a place for community gatherings and celebrations.  In 1950 the Old-timers Picnic had an attendance of 1500-2000.
